Dec 2025 in brief.
Eleven events and a ≥$5.69B floor. Two strategic acquisitions were 77% of it: CACI’s $2.6B definitive agreement for ARKA Group (EO/IR and hyperspectral imaging plus geospatial AI for national-security space) and Howmet’s $1.8B purchase of Consolidated Aerospace Manufacturing from Stanley Black & Decker (fasteners and fluid fittings). Space & Launch recorded five events, its highest monthly count in the archive: ARKA, K2 Space’s $250M Series C (Redpoint), ICEYE’s $175M Series E (General Catalyst) for SAR constellations, HawkEye 360’s $150M Series E preferred plus debt (NightDragon, Center15) — announced alongside its undisclosed purchase of Innovative Signal Analysis — and Fortastra’s $8M seed for orbital escort satellites. Castelion’s $350M Series B (Altimeter, Lightspeed) for hypersonic strike and Radiant’s $300M Series D for microreactors were the other large financings; Vatn Systems raised $60M for autonomous underwater vehicles, and Bridgepoint took a majority stake in Norway’s Comrod (tactical antennas). TransDigm’s $960M agreement for Stellant Systems, announced December 31, was later terminated and is excluded from statistics.
December confirms space-based ISR as a strategic-acquirer category: ARKA (CACI), Lanteris (Intuitive Machines, November) and Geost (Rocket Lab, May) are three payload-and-imaging targets in seven months, and HawkEye 360 buying ISA shows constellation operators consolidating downstream analytics too. Castelion and Radiant — $350M and $300M at Series B and D — are second appearances of companies priced on manufacturing capacity rather than software; Castelion returns at $1.05B in August 2026.
Activity vs each domain’s own baseline.
Each cell is the number of publicly announced deals in that domain and month. Color compares the month with that domain’s own average over the months shown — not a scale shared across domains — so a dark cell in a small domain means “busy for that domain”, not “large in dollars”. Domains with fewer than 12 events in the window are shown in gray without color. Absolute totals across all 24 months are on the archive home.

No domain moved outside its normal range.
No domain yet has enough history for a percentage callout. We flag a domain only when its last three months differ from the prior three by 30% or more and it has at least 36 events in the trailing 12 months. Smaller samples stay as raw counts on the heat map; we never quote month-over-month percentages.

Pulse. The domain’s largest month by dollars in the archive (≥$3.18B), and four of five events were space-based intelligence: ARKA’s EO/IR and hyperspectral payloads (CACI, $2.6B), ICEYE’s SAR constellation ($175M Series E), HawkEye 360’s RF-signals constellation ($150M) and Fortastra’s orbital-escort concept ($8M seed). K2 Space’s $250M Series C for high-power buses cites hosted defense payloads and proliferated constellations. Five events is the domain’s monthly record, matched three times in 2026.

Method & coverage
Public sources only · Issue window = first public announcement in Dec 2025 · 11 announced or closed events (F 7 · M 4 · P 0) · Disclosed floor ≥$5.69B across 9 of 11 (18% undisclosed) · 1 terminated agreement listed for context and excluded from counts and floors · Closings of deals first announced in an earlier month are not counted again here · Capital-supply items are sidebar-only and excluded from domain statistics · Heat-map colors use each domain’s own trailing-12-month baseline.
Event codes & terms
Disclosed floor — the sum of publicly disclosed amounts only. Undisclosed deals add zero, so read every total as “at least”.
Announcement month — events are dated to their first public announcement. A close in a later month does not move the event.
Mission domain — the market the capital is buying: the investor’s thesis first, the product second. One primary domain per event.
Heat-map baseline — color compares a month’s count with the same domain’s average over the trailing 12 months shown. Grey means fewer than 12 events in the window, too few to color.
About ASC
Abelian Security Council (ASC) gives clients in defense, national security and critical technologies direct, compliant access to the people who researched, designed, built, evaluated, bought, deployed and competed with the systems they are underwriting. Pulse is the public layer of that work: a curated tape of announced financings, acquisitions and listings, compiled from public sources and published monthly. Clients can schedule a call with Owen Davies, ASC’s Chief Executive. Members can apply to join.
